The Planning Inspectorate- Wales

Assessing the Soundness of Local Development Plans

The attached consultation documents will be of interest to local authorities, agents, landowners, local residents and others likely to be involved in examinations of Local Development Plans (LDPs).

Following Ministerial agreement, the Planning Inspectorate will shortly be launching a consultation exercise seeking comments on our proposals, as set out in these documents, for assessing whether LDPs are sound, and on the examination process itself. The consultation documents also include model forms and guidance notes to help focus representations on the soundness tests.

Pending the start of consultation, any queries on this material should be addressed to Chris Sweet of the Inspectorate's LDP Team (chris.sweet@pins.gsi.gov.uk, 029 2082 1581, or at Crown Buildings, Cathays Park, Cardiff, CF10 3NQ).

The consultation process will commence on 9 May 2005 , and will last for 12 weeks. Responses will be due by the beginning of August 2005. Consultation papers will be sent to a wide range of consultees, including all Chief Planning Officers in Wales as well as a range of organisations with an interest in planning matters.
