Performance Information - Advisory Panel on Standards
The Advisory Panel on Standards advise the First Secretary of the National Assembly for Wales the Department for Communities and Local Government on the maintenance and enhancement of professional standards in the Planning Inspectorate. Royal Town Planning Institute AwardsThe President's Special Award for Planning Achievement
was presented to the Planning Inspectorate at the Royal Town Planning
Institute. Honour for Michael Fitzgerald OBE QCMichael Fitzgerald has been awarded an OBE in the latest New Years Honours list. The award is for "services to the Planning Inspectorate and to standards". Mr Fitzgerald was the first chairman of APOS (the Advisory Panel on Standards) which monitors the quality of the Inspectorate's output, and looks at the systems we have in place to ensure our high standards are maintained. APOS reports every year to the First Minister of the NAW and the Secretary of State. Although they are always prepared to cast a critical eye over us, APOS have generally been highly complimentary of the quality of the Inspectorate's work. Mr Fitzgerald retired from APOS last year, and this honour is recognition of the importance of the work that he and APOS have undertaken. It underlines the government's commitment to raising standards in the public service in general and the planning system in particular, and is a reminder of the central role that we in the Inspectorate play in this system.
