The Planning Inspectorate Annual Report and Accounts 2005/06Section 1 - Foreword by Minister
I have pleasure in introducing the Planning Inspectorate’s Annual Report and Accounts for 2005/06.The Inspectorate is a key player in the Government’s programme of planning reform and is responding to the challenge. Our programme of reform is designed to create a planning system that responds positively to ever changing circumstances. For the Inspectorate, this means meeting the rising expectations ofcustomers as well as reflecting the Government’s policy priorities, and adapting to new challenges. For example, our recent response to the Barker Report highlighted the urgent need to provide more housing. As a result the Inspectorate is responding by ensuring that housing appeals are determined much faster. The coming year will see fresh challenges and I commend the efforts of everyone in the Inspectorate to improve productivity through more efficient ways of working. The Inspectorate has made great strides forward and is responding with energy to challenges in the future. Yvette Cooper |
