Welsh language scheme4 The Inspectorate's Public Face4.1 Corporate Image The Inspectorate will adopt a full bilingual corporate identity and ensure that all letterheads, logos, vision and objectives and any other standard information are bilingual. (Target date: December 1998) 4.2 Presentations The Inspectorate's name and associated information will be bilingual on our signs, publication covers and other forms of public display.
4.3 Signs The National Assembly for Wales, accommodation branch, are arranging for bilingual signs on the outside of the building. We will also ensure, with the National Assembly for Wales, that all internal signs are also bilingual. (Target date: December 1998) The Inspectorate will ensure that size, quality, legibility and prominence of text on signs will respect the principle of equality. 4.4 Publications When the Inspectorate prints and publishes material for the public, its standard practice will be to do so bilingually. (Current practice) Most printed guidance booklets, leaflets etc. used by the Inspectorate in Wales are produced for it by the parent Departments. We will make them aware of our scheme and provide them with written guidance for dealing with bilingual publications.
4.5 Forms The Inspectorate issues appeal forms and covering explanatory notes for the wide range of cases it deals with.
4.6 Press Notices We will ensure that any press notices issued by us are bilingual. (Current practice) We will also ensure and encourage our parent Departments, especially when the notice is prepared outside of Wales, in cases relating to Wales, to plan and issue notices bilingually. (Current practice) 4.7 Public notices and recruitment advertising Public notices in Wales-based newspapers will be bilingual. When it proves impracticable to do this (this will only be for very long notices), Welsh language notices will be placed in Welsh language newspapers and the same notice in English in English language newspapers. (Current practice) Staff recruitment advertising in Wales-based newspapers will be bilingual. (Current practice) Advertisements in the major UK newspapers will be in English only. (Current practice) If a post is designated as "Welsh is essential" then the job will be advertised in UK papers bilingually. (Target date: at next appropriate recruitment exercise) 4.8 Advertising and Publicity Activities The Inspectorate will, if involved in the planning and implementation of publicity campaigns, seek to implement the following objectives:
