London Gateway (Shell Haven) Inquiry

The public inquiry (in effect concurrent inquiries) has now closed. It considered:

- an appeal, under Section 78 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, by The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company and Shell UK Limited relating to a planning application (THU/02/00084/OUT) for the redevelopment of the former Shell Haven Oil Refinery Site (London Gateway);

- an application by The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company and Shell UK Limited for an order under Section 1 of the Transport and Works Act 1992 in respect of the construction and operation of various railways and other works on land at or adjacent to the former Shell Haven oil Refinery Site at Stanford-le- Hope, Thurrock, Essex, and

- a proposed Harbour Empowerment Order for a new port to accommodate traffic freight, general cargo, aggregates and bulk liquids adjacent to the planning application site.

The Inspectors report of the Inquiry was submitted to the Secretaries of State in February 2004.
