What we do

Our main work is the processing of planning and enforcement appeals and holding examinations into development plan documents. We also deal with a wide variety of other planning related casework including listed building consent appeals and advertisement appeals.

Major Infrastructure Planning

Greg Clark, Minister responsible for planning policy at CLG, has issued a written Ministerial statement on 29 June 15kb announcing that the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) will be abolished. The statement reaffirms that the Government wants a planning system for major infrastructure which is rapid, predictable and accountable, and sets out their intention to establish a major infrastructure planning unit as part of the Planning Inspectorate.

Advice for Inspectors

The Planning Inspectorate has published its advice for Inspectors on handling casework following:

- the announcement by the Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, on 6 July 2010 that Regional Strategies are revoked with immediate effect. Regional Strategies - Revocation and  position of Partial North West and Partial South East Reviews + South West RSS additional  SA work

- the announcement on 9 June 2010 by Greg Clark MP, Minister for Decentralisation, to reissue PPS3 with amendments removing private residential gardens from the definition of previously developed land and removing the indicative minimum density.
