The Planning Inspectorate – Corporate Management - Summary

The Chief Executive

1. The Chief Executive is personally responsible for the effective management of the Inspectorate in accordance with the Framework Document (which is currently under review) and in accordance with the normal civil service rules on propriety and securing value for money.

The Strategic Management Board

2. The Chief Executive has appointed a Strategic Management Board to direct the Inspectorate’s work within the parameters laid down in the Framework Document.

3. The role of the Non-Executive Directors is to contribute to collective Board decisions on matters such as business planning, policy, strategy, performance, resources and Corporate Governance. They were appointed to provide an external perspective, to challenge and scrutinise and to provide knowledge and independent advice according to their individual areas of expertise based on their wider experience in other organisations.

4. The Non-Executive Directors were appointed following open competition and in accordance with the principles laid down in the code of practice for Ministerial Appointment to Public Bodies issued by the Cabinet Office and the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
