Defra is currently undertaking a limited consultation on the issue of minimum and approximate widths, and Advice Note 16 (AN16) may be amended as a result of this exercise.  In the meantime, Inspectors should continue to follow the current version of AN16 (as amended in May 2006).

Planning Casework Service Update

The Planning Inspectorate has written to all local authorities in England explaining the current position with the Planning Casework Service, encouraging increased use of the online facilities and a suspension of scanning and publishing in order to maintain the best possible service to customers.

This form is used at inquiries and hearings by members of the public to request a copy of the Inspector's decision.  Local authorities should make copies available at the start of the proceedings and the forms should be handed to the Inspector at the end.

Development Plan Document Examinations - Programme Officer Guidance Notes

These notes relate to development plan examinations under the new system (i.e. following the introduction of the Planning and Compensation Act 2004).

LPAs will be aware that, during the last few months, the Planning Inspectorate has been running Programme Officer training courses. We will be running further courses shortly (Autumn 2006). These courses are free of charge.

New Planning Inspectors starting work for the Planning Inspectorate

After a successful campaign to attract new Planning Inspectors, the Planning Inspectorate has announced that over 40 new Inspectors will soon be starting work, ensuring the Inspectorate is well-equipped to deliver a high-quality service in 2006.

Downloadable Word and editable PDF versions of the model forms and notes for making representations on SCIs and DPDs have now been placed on the website for use by local planning authorities. Minor corrections have also been made to the Annex to the model DPD representation form (page 34 of the DPD guide).
