The Planning Inspectorate in conjunction with CEDR (The Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution) are running a pilot study to measure the effectiveness of mediation to resolve planning disputes with four volunteer planning authorities - North Wiltshire, Wealden, Westminster and Winchester.

We have just completed a large review of the Consistency Guidelines. As a result Section 7 (Inclosure Awards), Section 8 (Tithes), Section 9 (Turnpikes) and Section 11 (Finance Act 1910) have undergone significant revision. Small changes have also been made to the majority of the other sections.

Customer Satisfaction Survey 2004

The Planning Inspectorate have commissioned annual customer satisfaction surveys, and each survey has dealt separately with an area of the Planning Inspectorate business such as planning appeals, development plan inquiries or rights of way orders. In 2002 the Planning Inspectorate commissioned a customer satisfaction survey which covered most aspects of the Planning Inspectorate business, and this survey was designed to be the first of a three-year programme of surveys to track satisfaction levels, and the progress made by The Planning Inspectorate in acting upon the results.
