Planning Inspectorate Newsletter - Issue 4

Planning Inspectorate Stakeholder meetingsPhoto of Sheila Rice

The Planning Inspectorate holds annual meetings with the following groups of stakeholders:

Interest Groups
Development Community
Professional Bodies
Legal Bodies
Oversight groups
Regional bodies
Public bodies
London

The purpose of these meetings

  1. To enhance two-way communications between PINS and representatives of the various stakeholders.
  2. To generate two-way engagement and accountability between PINS and stakeholders;  and
  3. To identify areas for improvement and future action.

Discussion at most of the meetings normally includes an update on PINS performance and discussion on Local Development Framework issues plus any other matters which stakeholders wish to raise.

Attached is a chart showing the organisations which make up the above groups of stakeholders.

The most notable outcomes during the 2006 meetings have related to the need for greater partnership policy on disseminating information from the early experience of the new spatial plan system and the work being undertaken to improve the processing and timeliness of scheduling public inquiries, especially with regard to Housing inquiries.  Climate change has also been a hot topic for discussion.
