Planning Inspector - Inspector Grades, Salaries and Pension Arrangements
Salary scales from 1 August 2009
There are three grades of Planning Inspector: Housing and Planning Inspector (HPI), Senior Housing and Planning Inspector (SHPI) and Principal Housing and Planning Inspector (PHPI). Progression up the salary ranges of each grade depends principally on competence, as assessed by line managers.
Promotion from HPI to SHPI depends purely on competence: the number of SHPI posts is not limited and there is no element of competition. Planning Inspectors at all grades may be able to earn extra money by undertaking additional productivity.
There are also other grades of Inspector; dealing with work such as: enforcement and Rights of Way.
Pensions
Salaried Inspectors are eligible to join the Civil Service’s premium pension scheme. It is possible to transfer pension benefits into the premium pension scheme from most other schemes and to purchase added years. However, potential new recruits should carefully evaluate their transfer options before joining.
