Health and Safety Policy

Policy Statement

October 2008

The Planning Inspectorate (PINS) is committed to the protection of the health safety and welfare of all our employees, our customers, the public and all persons working under the control of the organisation. Securing this commitment is an important management objective that contributes to business performance.

The Chief Executive ensures that adequate arrangements are made to maintain a written health and safety management system and to provide appropriate financial and physical resources for its implementation. This system identifies the responsibilities of all managers and details the arrangements both for the control of hazards that could arise from the activities of their operations and the consultation and communication of health and safety matters with employees.  The system also includes arrangements for setting objectives; monitoring and reviewing health and safety performance and management, not only to comply with legal and other requirements, but also to secure progressive improvements.

The Health and Safety Manager provides health and safety advice to the Chief Executive and Senior Managers. The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for regularly reviewing health and safety performance and reporting the results to the Operations Director and Senior Management Team

We remind all employees, and all persons working under the control of the organisation, that they have a personal responsibility for their own health and safety and that of other people who may be affected by the work they do.  They must therefore, adhere to the working practices detailed in the Staff Handbook, the Inspector’s Manual, and relevant PINSNotes, and co-operate fully with their managers on any matter relating to health and safety.

This policy is reviewed annually to ensure that it remains relevant and appropriate.

Signed

Katrine Sporle

Chief Executive
