The Inspectorate's performance against appeals targets is measured as the time taken to determine 80% of appeals. The Ministerial targets for planning appeal work in England were to determine 80% of planning appeals decided by written representation within 18 weeks, hearing cases within 24 weeks and inquiry cases within 36 weeks. Charts 2 and 3 show the 80% handling times by procedure type for both Secretary of State and Inspector cases over the last 5 years.
