The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, has decided to delay her formal announcement of the inquiry timetable for a short time. As a result, the inquiry will not start on 15 April, as was scheduled, and all deadlines for submission of evidence are suspended.
The Secretary of State has issued an open letter setting out her reasons for delaying the start of the inquiry (and when she will now announce a date for the opening of the inquiry). The Inspector’s recommendations to the Secretary of State on the proposed timetable for the inquiry can also be viewed on this website.

Introduction
The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government has called in for her determination applications made by BAA Limited and Stansted Airport Limited for a proposed second runway at Stansted Airport.
The list of the applications can be viewed from the Inquiry Documents page. They have been called in under powers in the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 - Section 76A (2) in respect of the applications in Part A of that list, and Section 76A (3) for the applications listed in Part B.
To consider all the relevant aspects of the proposed development, the Secretary of State has decided to hold an inquiry (in effect, concurrent inquiries) into the applications. As the applications have been referred to under a direction under Section 76A of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, the inquiry will be subject to the Town and Country Planning (Major Infrastructure Project Inquiries Procedure) (England) Rules 2005 (‘2005 Rules’). More information on the Rules is contained in DCLG Circular 7/2005.
This inquiry will be concurrent with other inquiries into applications and orders submitted to the Secretary of State for Transport, and to the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. The current list of those applications/orders can be viewed from the Inquiry Documents page.
The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has decided that an application for a Section 19 Exchange Land Certificate should be considered in a concurrent inquiry.
Stansted Airport Limited have applied to the Secretary of State for Transport under Section 44 of the Civil Aviation Act, to obtain rights over land to enable the provision of an aviation fuel pipeline.
Andrew Phillipson, BSC CENG FICE MIHT, will be the Inspector conducting the inquiry. Philip Asquith, MA MA MRTPI, will be the Deputy Inspector, (See 'Who's Who').
